We have a non WordPress site (flat file generator written in Perl with MySQL), and we need about 100GB of space. We currently have a VPS with BlueHost, but we are getting hacked all the time (malicious code gets added to files or index.html gets overwritten) and I have no idea how to manage a VPS to…

Hello all. I have never used WordPress before--my day job is in IT, so I'm familiar with DNS records mainly for email security, but building a website and hosting it is all very new to me. I picked IONOS based on price (since I donated the cost of hosting, as I'm designing this site for a nonprofit …

Just wanted to share my recent experience with Contabo, hoping it helps others considering them. After upgrading my VPS, everything worked for a few hours, but then the server suddenly became unreachable from outside—no SSH, ping, or website access. I could only access it via VNC. I opened a suppo…

HI Everyone, I’ve been with WP Engine since 2022 and initially liked the platform — good performance, great support, and a clean UI. But over time, I’ve run into a recurring issue: sudden warnings about exceeding limits (usually bandwidth or storage), followed by intense pressure to upgrade. Most r…

I used to consider Gandi (gandi.net) the best European domain registrar, until it was acquired by Total Webhosting Solutions back in 2023. As expected with such acquisitions, price hikes followed shortly after. While initial prices are still competitive (a common marketing tactic to lure in new cus…

So my Bluehost-hosted Wordpress installations have just come under attack from Malware for the second time in a month. How It Works

UNFILTERED SOCIAL PROOF

Most hosting review sites only show curated testimonials. We do the opposite, we scan public social media daily for real, unfiltered opinions about hosting companies. Every mention gets classified and added to the feed.

When you see a host mentioned, click their name to visit their full profile on Hostlist, including HRI, plans, and verified reviews.

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Social Noise?

Social Noise is our real-time feed of what people are publicly saying about web hosting companies across X (Twitter), Reddit, Instagram, TikTok, and other social platforms. We surface genuine user opinions, the good, the bad, and the ugly, so you can see unfiltered feedback before choosing a host.

How do you collect these mentions?

We use automated search tools to monitor social media platforms for posts mentioning hosting companies in our directory. Each mention is classified by sentiment (good, bad, or mixed) and linked back to the original post and the host's profile on Hostlist.

How is sentiment determined?

Each mention is read for its overall meaning, not just for negative or positive keywords, and classified as Good (a positive experience or recommendation, even one that mentions a past problem but concludes satisfied), Bad (a genuine complaint or negative experience), or Mixed/Ugly (a nuanced take with real pros and cons). Posts from a host's own account, and promotional or affiliate copy, are excluded entirely rather than scored.

How often is Social Noise updated?

Social Noise is refreshed daily. We scan for new mentions across all monitored platforms every 24 hours and add them to the feed. The page itself revalidates every 2 minutes to show the latest data.

Can I filter by platform or sentiment?

Yes. Use the filter pills at the top to narrow by platform (X, Instagram, TikTok, Other) or sentiment (Good, Bad, Mixed). Filters can be combined to see, for example, only negative mentions on X.
