HostList is the world's largest independent web hosting directory, tracking 30,768 providers across 120+ countries. Every listing is ranked by HRI, an objective algorithmic score combining trust signals, profile completeness, freshness, and performance data. No company can pay to improve their rank, and we accept no hosting affiliate revenue on rankings.
HRI is a 0 to 100 score made of four equally-weighted components, each worth 25 points: Trust (independent customer-review signals and verification status), Completeness (how detailed the profile is), Freshness (how recently data was updated), and Performance (uptime and response-time data where available). Hosts can improve their score by claiming and updating their profile, but cannot pay for points.
No. A host cannot pay to rank higher: the ranking algorithm has no paid input, and every score is earned from public data. This makes us different from virtually every other hosting directory, where rankings are influenced by commission payments. HostList does run a small sponsorship trial, and displays Deals from hosts who participate in that program. Both are clearly labelled, both sit outside the ranked tables, and neither affects score or rank.
