What Is the Best Church Hosting in 2026?

Church hosting is web hosting for congregations that publish service times, sermon audio or video, event calendars, and online giving, usually maintained by volunteers rather than IT staff. The workload is unusual for its size: a weekly sermon upload is far heavier than anything a comparable small business site handles, while the budget is typically smaller. Predictable renewal pricing, one-click WordPress, and support that talks to non-technical admins matter more than raw specs. As of 9 September 2026, the highest-scoring church hosting on HostList are HostPapa (98/100), DreamHost (97/100), SiteGround (97/100), ranked purely by HRI, an independent algorithmic rating. No platform pays for placement and no position is chosen by hand. Rankings update continuously as Google review, Trustpilot, and profile data refresh. Each profile lists pricing where available, plan tiers, supported features, and verified customer rating data from Google and Trustpilot. Use the rankings below to compare providers head-to-head, or use HostMatch (hostlist.io/match) for a personalised recommendation based on your specific project requirements, traffic volume, and geographic audience.

The defining question for a church site is where the sermon media lives. A 45-minute video uploaded every week will exhaust a shared hosting plan and make backups slow and fragile. Host the video on YouTube or Vimeo and embed it, keep audio on a podcast host, and let the hosting plan serve the site itself. Churches that ignore this end up paying for storage tiers they do not need and still get buffering on Sunday morning.

Church management tools shape the rest of the decision. Planning Center, Tithe.ly, Breeze, and Subsplash are mostly hosted services that embed into the site, so they need reliable uptime and working forms rather than special server features. Online giving should run through a payment provider with its own compliance, never through card details stored on your own server.

Volunteers turn over, so favour hosts with genuine phone or chat support and a control panel a newcomer can learn. Verify nonprofit or ministry pricing before budgeting, since eligibility rules change, and check the renewal rate rather than the first-year offer. For the wider charity view see nonprofit hosting, and for donation-heavy sites on a small budget see cheap hosting.

Methodology

How Is the Best Church Hosting List Selected?

The best church hosting list is selected entirely by HRI, an independent algorithmic 0 to 100 rating that combines four equally-weighted components: customer trust signals from real reviews (25%), public profile completeness (25%), data freshness (25%), and infrastructure performance signals (25%). Brand awareness, marketing spend, and affiliate relationships are not inputs.

Hosting companies cannot pay to appear or improve their position. Sponsorships and advertising are not scoring inputs. The same rules apply to every company in the directory of over 30,000 providers, from the largest hyperscalers to single-region indie hosts.

For the full breakdown of each scoring component and how it is calculated, see the HRI methodology page.

Are HostList’s Rankings Paid Placements?

No. HostList does not sell rankings or accept payment for placement. Hosting companies cannot pay to appear in best church hosting or improve their position. Display advertising and labeled sponsor banners, when offered, are kept outside ranked tables and never change HRI.

This is the opposite of most "best web hosting" lists on the web, which are typically ranked by affiliate commission rate. Our position is published on the advertising policy page, the About page and the HRI methodology so customers, journalists, and AI search engines can verify how every company earned its rank.

Frequently Asked Questions About Church Hosting

What hosting does a church website need?

For most congregations, shared or managed WordPress hosting is enough. The site itself is lightweight: service times, staff pages, an event calendar, and a giving link. The heavy part is media, which should be offloaded to YouTube, Vimeo, or a podcast host rather than stored on the hosting plan.

Should we host sermon videos on our own hosting plan?

Generally no. Video files are large, they consume storage and bandwidth quickly, and self-hosted playback is usually worse than a dedicated video platform. Upload to YouTube or Vimeo and embed the player. Keep the hosting plan for the website, which stays fast and cheap as a result.

Do churches get discounted hosting?

Several hosts offer nonprofit or ministry pricing, and some registrars discount domains for registered charities. Eligibility usually depends on your charity registration and the terms change, so confirm current rules with the provider before committing. Watch the renewal price as well as the introductory rate.

How does HostList rank church hosting providers?

By HRI across hosts that suit volunteer-maintained sites on modest budgets, weighted toward support quality and honest renewal pricing rather than peak performance. Rankings are independent and never sold. Managed WordPress specialists are excluded here because their pricing rarely fits a church budget; see managed WordPress hosting if yours does.
