HostList Launches Domain Search and Price Comparison

HostList brings domain availability checks and public prices together, helping buyers compare renewal costs, minimum terms and six domain providers.

HostList has launched domain availability search alongside its domain price comparison. Buyers can check a name across popular extensions, see results as checks return, and compare published registration, renewal and transfer prices without opening a separate tab for every provider.

The price comparison covers 28 extensions and six providers: Openprovider, AI Vikings, OpusDNS, Porkbun, Name.com and Dynadot. Coverage varies by extension and service. Where a provider does not publish a comparable price, HostList says so and links to the source rather than guessing.

Why the company behind a domain price matters

A price table tells you what an offer costs today. It does not explain how the provider behind it is growing. Nadya Frost's ShareShift Q2 2026 report on European domain operators is worth a look for that reason:

  • OpusDNS: ShareShift gives it a growth-velocity index of 32.52, the highest in the report, and puts this down to bulk portfolio migrations.
  • Porkbun: its .uk portfolio shows a velocity index of 21.93. Note the qualifier: that's a .uk figure, not a number for Porkbun's business globally.
  • Dynadot: it scores 3.83 on the acquisition index but doesn't make the report's top 20 for net growth velocity. Acquiring domains and holding onto growth are two different things, and the numbers reflect that.

The telemetry behind these figures is dated July 4, 2026 and covers more than 56 million domains across European country-code extensions, attributed to providers by nameservers. That's an infrastructure snapshot, not a registrar market share table, a price ranking, or a judgement on service quality. ShareShift itself flags that better coverage can affect reported growth. We're using this research as context here, not as a stamp of approval for anyone in our comparison.

A domain search that keeps the next bill in view

A low registration price answers one question: what does the first term cost? It says nothing about the renewal bill, the minimum commitment, or the eligibility conditions attached. HostList puts those details next to the amount so buyers compare offers on their actual terms, not the headline number.

Search for a name without an extension to check it across a selection of popular endings, or enter a complete domain to focus on that one name. Results appear as providers reply, not all at once. Select an available result to see provider prices; select a registered one to request the registry information available to HostList.

"Instant search" describes that interactive experience, not a promise of zero latency or a reservation of the name. A slow or failed lookup gets labelled unverified, and restricted names are kept separate from confirmed registrations. Availability can still change before checkout.

Six providers, with the conditions attached

HostList uses Openprovider's public non-member prices, AI Vikings' public catalogue and domain quotes, Porkbun's public pricing API, Name.com's retail price fields and Dynadot's regular account tier. Membership discounts, bulk tiers and private account prices don't appear in the public comparison.

OpusDNS is included with its published business offers. Confirmed incoming-transfer promotions show up as transfer prices, with the business restriction and VAT exclusion noted alongside. Other public promotions are shown separately when their service or billing term isn't stated. Their service and term need confirmation before they can be compared with registration or renewal quotes.

All displayed amounts use the source's USD prices. Where the source gives a billing term, HostList shows the total for that term. An extension that requires two years upfront shouldn't look like a one-year offer you can just buy. If a term is missing, the comparison says so rather than assuming one.

Premium names need their own quote

Some names carry premium prices that differ from the standard rate for their extension. HostList flags those results and requests an exact-domain quote from AI Vikings when one's available. The quote keeps its minimum term, premium status and freshness information attached. It's a quote from that provider, not a claim that every registrar charges the same.

Other providers link through for their own exact premium quote. Stale quotes are labelled as such, and a failed quote request never turns into a zero-dollar price on the page. The provider confirms the amount, taxes, fees and availability when the buyer actually orders.

From finding a name to choosing a registrar

The search sits inside HostList's domain section, with direct links between availability checks, the comparison table and the registrar directory. Buyers can look into the company behind an offer before they ever leave HostList to register.

Extension guides, including the .com guide, add context about the extension and who runs it. A registry runs an extension; a registrar is the company a customer actually registers through. Keeping both visible makes it easier to see who does what.

HostList doesn't sell domains or take payment for them. This first release sticks to a manageable set of extensions and offers that can be clearly sourced. Wider coverage will depend on verifying each provider's prices and terms properly, as each source becomes available.

Before you choose a provider

  • Compare the same term. Check whether the headline price buys one year, or whether it only applies if you commit to longer.
  • Read the renewal price. A cheap first term tells you almost nothing about what it costs to keep the name.
  • Check the offer's conditions. Business eligibility rules, tax treatment and premium-name pricing can all quietly change what you're actually able to buy.
  • Look the company up. Cross-check the registrar directory against the price table, then confirm the exact name and final total before you check out.

Try domain search, or read the pricing methodology for source details, refresh periods and the limits of the comparison.
