CMS
DETECTOR
Enter a website to find out what content management system and technology it runs on. We fetch the page and read its fingerprints: the generator tag, response headers, script and asset paths, and platform-specific markers that reveal WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Drupal, Joomla, Ghost and the wider stack.
What is a CMS Detector?
A CMS detector is a free tool that identifies the content management system and technology a website runs on, such as WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace or Drupal. It fetches the page and reads its fingerprints, the generator tag, response headers and asset paths, to reveal the platform and wider stack behind a site.
How does a CMS Detector work?
- 01We fetch the website’s HTML and response headers.
- 02The generator meta tag, headers and asset paths are fingerprinted.
- 03Detected platforms and technologies are listed with the evidence.
Frequently asked questions
How can I tell what CMS a website uses?
The clearest signals are the HTML generator meta tag, the response headers (X-Powered-By, Server), and platform-specific asset paths: WordPress serves files from /wp-content, Shopify exposes cdn.shopify.com and a Shopify object, Wix and Squarespace add their own markers. This tool reads those fingerprints automatically so you do not have to view source yourself.
Why can’t you detect the CMS on some sites?
Sites behind a CDN or a headless setup, or ones that strip the generator tag and rename asset paths, hide their fingerprints on purpose. A custom-built site may use no recognisable CMS at all. When we cannot confirm a platform, it usually means the stack is custom or deliberately obscured.
Does the CMS affect which host I should use?
Yes. WordPress runs best on hosts tuned for PHP and its caching stack, Shopify is fully hosted so the question is your theme and apps, and a static or headless site suits an edge platform. Once you know the CMS, our best-hosting guides point you to providers optimised for it.
