How many web hosting companies exist?
There is no official count, because thousands of resellers and white-label operators are not always treated as separate companies. HostList tracks over 28,000 active hosting providers across 60+ countries, including pure-play web hosts, technology companies that offer hosting as a core product, and design and dev agencies offering managed hosting. New providers are added daily by the enrichment pipeline.

How does HostList decide which hosting companies are best?
HostList does not editorially pick winners. Every host is ranked by HostScore, a 0 to 100 algorithmic rating with four equally-weighted 25-point components: Trust (Google reviews, Trustpilot, G2, verified-claim status), Completeness (profile detail), Freshness (data recency), and Performance (uptime and response-time data where available). No hosting company can pay to rank higher, and the methodology is published in full at hostlist.io/hostscore.
Is HostList free to use?
Yes. The directory, rankings, comparisons, and HostMatch quiz are free for visitors. Hosting companies can claim their listing for free to keep profile data accurate. Optional featured-listing subscriptions add visual styling and a verified badge but cannot change HostScore or rank order. Affiliate commissions, sponsorships, and paid placements have zero influence on rank.
